Delayed insulin secretion
Disease description:
I experienced abdominal pain and went to the hospital for evaluation, where I was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I also have delayed insulin secretion. What are the manifestations of delayed insulin secretion?
If the peak insulin secretion is delayed, abnormalities in postprandial blood glucose and preprandial blood glucose (before the next meal) occur. Normal blood glucose stability depends on precise synchronization between the peak insulin secretion and the peak blood glucose level. When insulin secretion is delayed, the corresponding insulin peak does not coincide with the postprandial blood glucose peak, resulting in elevated postprandial blood glucose. Furthermore, this delayed insulin peak may occur just before the next meal—by which time the blood glucose peak has already passed—leading to a decline in blood glucose and consequently causing preprandial hypoglycemia.
