Does non-invasive prenatal DNA testing (NIPT) require consideration of maternal age?
Disease description:
I would like to ask whether non-invasive prenatal DNA testing (NIPT) needs to be interpreted in conjunction with maternal age.
Non-invasive prenatal DNA testing (NIPT) must be interpreted in conjunction with maternal age. NIPT is generally recommended for pregnant women aged 35 years or older and for those who decline invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures. Additionally, NIPT is typically advised if serum screening (e.g., first- or second-trimester “triple” or “quad” screen) yields a high-risk result or shows abnormal values for any individual marker. Furthermore, NIPT is minimally invasive—posing no risk to either the pregnant woman or the fetus—and individuals can promptly resume normal daily activities and work following the test.
