The significance of mean arterial pressure (MAP) lies in its reflection of blood pressure status in hypertensive patients. By assessing MAP, clinicians can evaluate cardiac function and the degree of resistance encountered by peripheral large arteries. If MAP is too low, vital organs such as the heart and brain may suffer inadequate perfusion. Conversely, if MAP is excessively high, it increases the workload on the heart and vasculature, potentially leading to compensatory cardiac hypertrophy, impaired cardiac function, or heart failure.
