Normal Serum Alkaline Phosphatase Values
Disease description:
My friend sustained a tibial fracture in a car accident, and now blood tests are required to monitor healing—specifically, serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP). What is the normal reference range for serum alkaline phosphatase?
Normal reference range: 45–125 U/L. A marked elevation may indicate liver disease or hepatobiliary disorders, which require prompt treatment. For tibial fractures, if the injury is mild, external immobilization with a plaster cast may be sufficient; however, severe tibial fractures typically necessitate surgical intervention to effectively manage the condition. Postoperatively, appropriate calcium supplementation may be beneficial.
