Is a heart rate of 33 dangerous?
Disease description:
My heart rate has consistently been low; this time, it was only in the 30s. I have no symptoms of discomfort. Is a heart rate of 33 dangerous?
A heart rate of 33 beats per minute (bpm) is dangerous. Prolonged bradycardia poses even greater risks. In adults, the normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 bpm; a rate of only 33 bpm indicates significant bradycardia. Such a slow heart rate may reduce cardiac output, leading to inadequate blood supply to numerous tissues and organs throughout the body. Mild symptoms may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and palpitations. However, severe bradycardia can result in syncope (fainting) or even shock—life-threatening complications.
