Glucobay (acarbose), a medication whose chemical name is acarbose, is used to lower postprandial blood glucose levels. This drug affects glucose absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. During its glucose-lowering action, it may increase gastrointestinal motility. As intestinal peristalsis accelerates, some patients may experience increased flatulence and more frequent bowel movements. These symptoms are adverse effects associated with Glucobay.
