Variant asthma is characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness triggered by external allergens, leading to expiratory dyspnea. Treatment may include oral antihistamines and/or inhaled corticosteroids to alleviate respiratory distress. Allergen testing is recommended, followed by allergen-specific immunotherapy (desensitization), which can help reduce the frequency and severity of asthma exacerbations.
