A heart rate of 80–100 beats per minute is considered normal. During physical activity, heart rate increases—specifically, the extent of elevation depends on exercise intensity. During vigorous exercise, heart rate may reach up to 180 beats per minute. If you experience abnormal palpitations during exercise, you should consult a physician and undergo an electrocardiogram (ECG) to assess the function of the atrioventricular (AV) node and sinoatrial (SA) node. Blood pressure measurement is also recommended to evaluate for possible hypertension.
