Do individuals with blood type O and B need to go to the hospital for hemolysis testing?
Disease description:
During a routine health check-up, my blood test revealed that I have type O blood, while my husband has type B blood. We are currently trying to conceive. I’ve heard that babies born to such couples may be at higher risk for hemolytic disease. Should we go to the hospital for a hemolysis test?
Individuals with blood type O and Rh-negative (O−) must undergo a hemolysis test at the hospital, as this blood type carries a relatively high risk of hemolytic disease. The optimal time to perform the hemolysis test is between 13 and 16 weeks of gestation. During pregnancy, maintain a positive mood and avoid excessive mental stress. Consume foods rich in high-quality protein to strengthen immunity. Avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and limit intake of sweets to reduce the risk of gestational diabetes.
