Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) Calculation Method
Disease description:
I’ve recently been feeling unwell, and my medical examination revealed hypertension. Could you please explain how mean arterial pressure (MAP) is calculated?
In general, calculating mean arterial pressure is unnecessary. Hypertension can be diagnosed whenever either systolic or diastolic blood pressure exceeds the upper limit of normal, and active pharmacologic antihypertensive treatment is then required. It is recommended that you visit the Department of Cardiology at a hospital for evaluation. Multiple blood pressure measurements should be obtained, along with appropriate ancillary tests—including complete blood count, electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, echocardiography, and carotid artery ultrasound—to guide selection of the most appropriate antihypertensive medication.
