Introduction
In general, foods to avoid in rosacea include spicy foods, seafood, greasy foods, high-sugar foods, and processed foods. Maintain facial cleanliness, avoid using facial cleansers, cosmetics, or cleansers containing irritating ingredients such as alcohol or amino acids, refrain from rubbing or squeezing acne lesions, and do not touch the affected areas with your hands.

Generally, individuals with rosacea should avoid certain foods, including spicy foods, seafood, greasy foods, high-sugar foods, and processed foods. A detailed analysis follows:

1. Spicy Foods

Rosacea—also known as rhinophyma—is characterized by facial redness (particularly on the nose), localized swelling, and enlarged pores. Strict dietary control is essential after diagnosis. Patients should avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers, onions, garlic, and Sichuan peppercorns, as these strongly irritate the skin and may exacerbate symptoms.

2. Seafood

Rosacea patients should also limit consumption of seafood—including fish, shrimp, and crab—due to their high protein content and cooling (cold-natured) properties in traditional Chinese medicine. These foods may irritate facial skin and trigger allergic reactions, thereby increasing the risk of rosacea flare-ups.

3. Greasy Foods

Fried foods and fatty meats are among the foods to be avoided, as their high fat content can stimulate excessive sebum production and contribute to pore blockage.

4. High-Sugar Foods

High-sugar foods and sweets may cause blood glucose fluctuations, which in turn can elevate systemic inflammation. Reducing intake of such foods helps control rosacea symptoms.

5. Processed Foods

Processed foods often contain large amounts of preservatives, artificial additives, and trans fats—all of which may provoke inflammatory responses in the body. Therefore, individuals with rosacea are advised to choose natural, unprocessed foods whenever possible.

Maintain facial cleanliness; avoid using cleansers, cosmetics, or skincare products containing alcohol, amino acids, or other irritating ingredients. Refrain from rubbing or squeezing affected areas, and do not touch rosacea lesions with your hands.
