Introduction
After a medical abortion, your diet must be varied. Pay special attention to consuming adequate protein-rich foods. You may eat congee made with red dates, longan, and millet, as well as soft-cooked noodles or porridge—these should be thoroughly cooked until tender to facilitate digestion and absorption. Additionally, because the body is relatively weak following a medical abortion and sweating is common, it is advisable to replenish fluids in small, frequent amounts to minimize water loss through evaporation.

Medical abortion (also known as “medication abortion”) involves terminating pregnancy using pharmaceutical agents. Following a medical abortion, dietary intake must be varied and well-balanced. Emphasize consumption of high-protein foods such as chicken, fish, eggs, and milk. It is also beneficial to consume congee made from red dates, longan, and millet, as well as soft-cooked noodles and porridge—foods that are easily digested and absorbed.

Additionally, the body tends to be relatively weak after a medical abortion, often resulting in increased sweating. Therefore, hydration should be maintained through frequent, small sips of water to minimize fluid loss. Sweat contains significant amounts of water-soluble vitamins—particularly vitamin C, vitamin B1, and vitamin B2—so consuming fresh vegetables and fruits is recommended not only to replenish these nutrients but also to help prevent constipation.

Abnormal post-abortion bleeding: If placental tissue is incompletely expelled during medical abortion—leaving fetal bone fragments or other residual tissue within the uterus—the body may recognize these remnants as foreign material, triggering abnormal uterine responses. This can lead to excessive vaginal bleeding, abnormally heavy menstrual flow, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), and lower back or lumbar discomfort.

During the recuperative period, while maintaining a normal diet, fat intake should be moderately restricted. Avoid spicy or stimulating foods—including chili peppers, alcohol, vinegar, black pepper, and ginger—as these may promote pelvic congestion. Also avoid cold-natured foods such as crab, freshwater snails, and clams.

The optimal duration for post-medical-abortion nourishment and recovery is approximately two weeks. Individuals with pre-existing physical weakness, poor constitution, or substantial blood loss may extend this recovery period as appropriate.
