Introduction
Consuming foods that enhance immune function offers numerous benefits for patients with thyroid nodules. Such foods include mushrooms, coix seed, red dates, and walnuts. These foods have no adverse effects on patients with thyroid disorders and can be consumed in moderate amounts alongside fresh fruits and vegetables. When eating fruits raw, ensure they are thoroughly washed. Clinically, thyroid nodules are broadly categorized as either benign or malignant.

Thyroid nodules are a very common thyroid disorder, classified as either infectious or non-infectious; however, they occur predominantly in women. In early stages, dietary adjustments may help manage the condition. So, what should women with thyroid nodules eat?

What Should Women with Thyroid Nodules Eat?

Consuming foods that boost immunity offers numerous benefits for patients with thyroid nodules. Such foods include mushrooms, coix seed (Job’s tears), red dates (jujubes), and walnuts. These foods pose no adverse effects for individuals with thyroid disorders, and patients may safely consume moderate-to-liberal amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables. When eating raw fruit, be sure to wash it thoroughly.

Clinically, thyroid nodules are broadly categorized as benign or malignant. Benign nodules may be functional (hormone-producing) or non-functional. Malignant nodules exhibit invasive growth potential and may metastasize to distant organs or regional lymph nodes. Invasion of the laryngeal nerve can cause hoarseness or aspiration during drinking. Once diagnosed as thyroid cancer, surgical intervention is typically indicated. Even large benign thyroid nodules may produce local compressive symptoms—particularly when compressing the esophagus or trachea—leading to dysphagia or respiratory difficulty. Therefore, surgery may also be considered for symptomatic nodules causing significant compression.

Additionally, cooking methods such as stewing or boiling—rather than deep-frying—are preferable. Patients with thyroid nodules should avoid highly processed, puffed, or grilled foods, as well as excessively fatty or high-cholesterol items—including fatty meats.
