Can you get pregnant from intercourse three days after your period ends?
When preparing for pregnancy, women often calculate their ovulation timing, as intercourse during the ovulation period significantly increases the likelihood of conception. However, some women experience irregular menstrual cycles, and even calculated ovulation dates may be inaccurate—both factors potentially interfering with normal conception. So, can a woman become pregnant from intercourse three days after her period ends?
Can intercourse three days after menstruation result in pregnancy?
Generally speaking, if a woman has regular menstrual cycles lasting 3–5 days and bleeding ceases completely by day three post-menstruation, the chance of pregnancy is very low. Similarly, even with irregular cycles or prolonged menstruation, the probability of conception remains low. Under normal circumstances, ovulation occurs approximately 14 days before the onset of the next menstrual period. This timeframe—roughly the middle 10 days of the menstrual cycle—represents the most fertile window, during which the likelihood of pregnancy from intercourse is relatively high; thus, contraceptive measures are recommended.

Conversely, the five days immediately before and after menstruation are considered relatively “safe” (i.e., lower-risk) periods for conception. Nevertheless, spontaneous (unexpected) ovulation may occasionally occur due to emotional stress or environmental changes, though the associated pregnancy risk remains minimal. Therefore, even during these so-called “safe” periods, contraceptive precautions should still be taken whenever possible—since intercourse during this time is not absolutely safe. Using condoms consistently throughout intercourse is the safest approach.

If pregnancy is not currently planned, effective contraception should be used during intercourse to prevent unintended pregnancy. We hope this information is helpful to you.
