What Causes Yellow Semen?
Normal male semen is typically grayish-white or milky white. Yellowish discoloration of semen may arise from either physiological or pathological causes.
① Physiological Causes
For example, prolonged abstinence can lead to yellowish semen; similarly, dietary habits—such as long-term consumption of spicy or highly stimulating foods—may also cause yellowish discoloration. In such cases, the condition usually resolves spontaneously, and there is generally no need for excessive concern.

② Pathological Causes
Persistent yellowish semen, or semen appearing milky white or yellow-green—or even containing blood streaks—suggests inflammation within the reproductive tract, most likely due to suppurative infection of the prostate and/or seminal vesicles. Yellowish ejaculate may indicate conditions such as bacterial prostatitis.
Abnormal sperm parameters significantly impact the quality of fertilized ova, embryos, and fetuses. Such abnormalities are associated with numerous adverse pregnancy outcomes, including embryonic arrest, recurrent miscarriage, preterm birth, stillbirth, fetal malformations, intellectual disability, and developmental abnormalities.
Therefore, when abnormal semen characteristics are observed, prompt medical consultation and appropriate diagnostic testing are essential. Treatment should be guided by a physician’s assessment and recommendations.
