What is the normal size of the uterus?
During B-mode ultrasound examination, it is observed that uterine size varies among women. So, what is the normal uterine size?
What Is the Normal Uterine Size?
The normal uterine dimensions for Chinese women are approximately: length 7–8 cm, width 4–5 cm, and thickness 2–3 cm. However, uterine size may vary depending on factors such as height, weight, and body habitus—there is no universally fixed standard. The uterus has a triangular shape (inverted pyramid), composed primarily of muscular tissue. The normal uterine cavity is fusiform (spindle-shaped), with a capacity of about 5 mL in the non-pregnant state. During late-term pregnancy (at term), the uterine cavity volume increases approximately 1,000-fold, reaching around 5,000 mL. After childbirth, as the myometrium gradually contracts and returns to its pre-pregnancy state, both uterine size and cavity morphology revert to their non-pregnant configuration.

The uterus is one of the most vital organs in the human body and requires regular care. Maintain good hygiene by washing the external genitalia daily with plain water and changing undergarments frequently to prevent bacterial infection. Use reliable contraception to avoid unintended pregnancy, as induced abortion can cause significant damage to the uterus. Avoid prolonged sitting; engage in moderate physical activity regularly. During menstruation, keep warm and dress appropriately to prevent colds. Avoid staying up late; ensure adequate sleep and maintain physical fitness through appropriate exercise. Refrain from unprotected or unhygienic sexual intercourse.

Uterine examination is an essential annual health screening for all women. Regular check-ups—ideally once per year—help safeguard women’s long-term health and well-being. We hope this information has been helpful to you!
