Introduction
Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection affecting the nail plate and subungual tissues. Patients are not advised to use Huoxiang Zhengqi Water for the treatment of onychomycosis. Clinically, Huoxiang Zhengqi Water is most commonly used to treat heatstroke. As it contains a high concentration of alcohol, Huoxiang Zhengqi Water may serve as an adjunctive therapy in clinical practice. However, topical application of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water for onychomycosis is unlikely to yield satisfactory therapeutic outcomes.

We’ve all heard the classic advertising slogan: “One case of onychomycosis (gray nail) infects two.” This highlights just how serious onychomycosis can be—thus, prompt treatment is essential upon diagnosis. So, can Huoxiang Zhengqi Water treat onychomycosis?

Can Huoxiang Zhengqi Water Treat Onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection affecting the nail plate and subungual tissues. Clinically, Huoxiang Zhengqi Water is not recommended for treating onychomycosis. Its primary clinical use is for heatstroke. Although Huoxiang Zhengqi Water contains a high concentration of alcohol—and may therefore serve as an adjunctive topical agent in onychomycosis management—it is not considered a primary antifungal therapy.

However, relying solely on topical application of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water is unlikely to yield satisfactory antifungal efficacy. Moreover, clinicians typically recommend that patients first debride (remove) the infected portions of the nail to ensure optimal drug penetration and antimicrobial effect. Without such debridement, topical medications struggle to penetrate the nail plate and exert their therapeutic action.

Therefore, once diagnosed with onychomycosis, patients should consider not only topical and oral antifungal medications but also laser therapy. Laser treatment delivers concentrated thermal energy capable of killing fungi and simultaneously stimulating regrowth of healthy nail tissue. We hope this information proves helpful!
