Introduction
Nausea and vomiting are associated with gastric disorders, hepatobiliary diseases, pancreatic diseases, and intestinal disorders. There are numerous causes of nausea and vomiting, the most common being gastric disorders. When gastric digestive function is impaired, food remains in the stomach for an extended period, increasing intragastric pressure and thereby triggering nausea and vomiting. Gastric conditions that can cause nausea and vomiting include gastritis, gastric ulcers, and gastroparesis.

Nausea and vomiting are commonly caused by gastrointestinal disorders, such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastroparesis. Additionally, some patients may experience associated symptoms including abdominal pain, bloating, and loss of appetite. But why do we feel nauseous and vomit?

Why Do We Feel Nauseous and Vomit?

Nausea and vomiting are associated with gastric, hepatic-biliary, pancreatic, and intestinal diseases. There are numerous potential causes; the most common is gastric disease. When gastric digestive function is impaired, food remains in the stomach for an extended period, increasing intragastric pressure and thereby triggering nausea and vomiting. Gastric conditions that can cause these symptoms include gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastroparesis, pyloric obstruction, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Nausea and vomiting may also result from insufficient sleep, excessive psychological stress, anorexia nervosa, functional gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., functional dyspepsia or irritable bowel syndrome), cerebrovascular diseases, and other systemic conditions. In women, hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy commonly induce nausea and vomiting. If nausea and vomiting occur frequently, prompt medical evaluation is recommended. A physician will conduct a face-to-face consultation and, based on the patient’s full clinical presentation, determine appropriate diagnostic tests.

Consuming light, easily digestible foods can help alleviate nausea and vomiting. Since these symptoms are primarily attributable to gastric disorders—such as gastritis and functional dyspepsia—it is advisable to eat bland, low-residue, easily digestible meals, preferably in liquid or semi-liquid form. We hope this information is helpful to you.
