Drinking warm brown sugar water may help alleviate dysmenorrhea symptoms for some individuals, though effectiveness varies from person to person. It must be consumed while hot—not lukewarm or cold—because cooling the beverage may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, thereby increasing smooth muscle contractions and potentially worsening menstrual pain. Moreover, individuals with diabetes should avoid using brown sugar water to manage dysmenorrhea, as it may exacerbate their underlying condition and impair glycemic control.

Dysmenorrhea is classified into two types: primary and secondary. Because the underlying causes differ, the associated risks also vary. Primary dysmenorrhea results from excessive prostaglandin secretion during menstruation, which triggers uterine contractions and pain.
