Introduction
Menstruation lasting only one or two days may be due to Qi stagnation and Blood stasis or to Cold in the Uterus—both are manifestations of menstrual irregularity. Such patterns commonly arise from excessive mental preoccupation or chronic depression, leading to Qi stagnation and Blood stasis; alternatively, they may result from frequent consumption of cold-natured foods, causing Cold to invade the uterus. For menstruation that ends after only one or two days, applying heat to the lower abdomen using a hot water bottle or a disposable heat patch is recommended.

Over the past few months, my menstrual flow has been significantly reduced, lasting only one or two days—this feels highly abnormal. I’ve heard that a typical menstrual period usually lasts about seven days. Could you please explain why menstruation might end after just one or two days?

What Causes Menstruation to End After Only One or Two Days?

Menstruation ending after only one or two days may be due to Qi stagnation and Blood stasis, or to Cold accumulation in the uterus—both of which are manifestations of menstrual irregularity. Such patterns commonly arise from excessive mental stress or chronic depression leading to Qi stagnation and Blood stasis, or from frequent consumption of cold-natured foods causing Cold invasion of the uterus.

For menstruation lasting only one or two days, applying heat to the lower abdomen using a hot water bottle or heating pad may help. Additionally, oral administration of Leonurus (Yi Mu Cao) can promote uterine contraction and facilitate menstrual blood discharge. If menstrual blood is successfully expelled, the underlying cause is likely Qi and Blood stagnation. If no blood is discharged, possible causes include menstrual irregularity, endocrine dysfunction, Qi and Blood deficiency, or oligomenorrhea (excessively light menses).

During this time, nutritional support—particularly for replenishing Qi and Blood—can be achieved through dietary means, such as consuming organ meats, black fungus (wood ear), donkey-hide gelatin (Ajiao), brown sugar, and red dates. Simultaneously, minimizing late-night activities in daily life helps stabilize the menstrual cycle. However, for an accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment, it is essential to consult a qualified physician at a reputable medical institution. We hope this information proves helpful to you!
