Can patients with hypertension take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan?
Hypertension is relatively common in daily life and poses numerous adverse effects on patients’ health and well-being—sometimes even interfering with their normal work and daily activities. So, can patients with hypertension take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula)?
Can patients with hypertension take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan?
Patients with hypertension may take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan appropriately; however, it is not a medication specifically indicated for treating hypertension. Rather, it is primarily used to treat patterns of Kidney Yin Deficiency in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), especially when accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, tinnitus, lower back weakness, nocturnal emissions, and night sweats. If a hypertensive patient exhibits these TCM-pattern symptoms, Liu Wei Di Huang Wan may be taken—but it does not directly affect blood pressure. Hypertensive patients should generally follow prescribed antihypertensive medications under the guidance of a physician. If additional conditions require concurrent pharmacotherapy, consultation with a healthcare provider is strongly recommended.

Patients are encouraged to consume more fresh vegetables and fruits, such as celery, black fungus (wood ear), leeks, tomatoes, cauliflower, garlic, onions, potatoes, pumpkin, soy products, mushrooms, bananas, pineapples, cherries, grapes, watermelon, apples, pears, grapefruit, and hawthorn. These foods help lower blood pressure and reduce intake of fatty and animal-based fats.

Additionally, certain traditional Chinese herbs—including Apocynum venetum (Luo Bu Ma), Eucommia ulmoides (Du Zhong), Gastrodia elata (Tian Ma), Chrysanthemum morifolium (Ju Hua), and Crataegus pinnatifida (Shan Zha)—can be prepared as herbal teas or incorporated into medicinal dietary therapy to support blood pressure management. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
