Does tofu contain purine?
Tofu contains purines.
Tofu is typically made from soybeans and is classified as an alkaline food. It contains plant-based estrogens, abundant potassium ions, vitamin E, and other nutrients that are readily absorbed by the human body. After processing, approximately 55.5 mg of purines are present per 100 g of tofu, classifying it as a moderate-purine food. Patients with hyperuricemia or gout may consume small amounts to supplement dietary protein and essential nutrients; however, excessive intake is not recommended. As tofu is considered relatively “cold” in nature according to traditional Chinese medicine, individuals with weak spleen-stomach function or a constitutionally cold and deficient body type should limit or avoid consumption to prevent exacerbating gastrointestinal burden and causing indigestion.
After consuming tofu, increasing fluid intake and urine output—aiming for at least 2,000 mL of both daily—can help promote uric acid excretion. In daily life, maintain a balanced diet and avoid spicy, irritating, or greasy foods to minimize adverse effects on health.
