What Causes Stomach Bloating After Eating Corn?
Eating corn and experiencing gastric distension is commonly caused by indigestion, chronic gastritis, or gastric ulcers.
1. Indigestion
Corn is a food high in dietary fiber. Consuming large amounts of corn over a prolonged period may overload the intestines, slow gastrointestinal motility, and lead to indigestion. This causes food to remain in the intestines for an extended time, resulting in excessive fermentation and gas production—manifesting as gastric distension after eating corn.
2. Chronic Gastritis
Infection with *Helicobacter pylori* or intestinal viruses, or long-term consumption of highly irritating foods, can cause chronic inflammatory changes in the gastric mucosa, leading to chronic gastritis. This condition may present with symptoms such as gastric distension and epigastric pain, impair gastric digestive function, and thereby contribute to gastric distension after eating corn.
3. Gastric Ulcer
Improper diet, long-term use of medications that damage the gastric mucosa, or *Helicobacter pylori* infection can injure gastric tissues—particularly in the antrum or angularis—resulting in gastric ulcers. Gastric ulcers may cause gastric motility disorders and abdominal distension, thus triggering gastric distension after eating corn.
