Introduction
People with diarrhea should generally avoid eating red-bean-paste buns. Consuming these buns may cause abdominal bloating and potentially worsen symptoms such as abdominal distension and diarrhea; they may also trigger abdominal pain—hence, they are not recommended. If the diarrhea is caused by a viral infection, antidiarrheal medications may be used under a physician’s guidance. If it results from a bacterial infection, broad-spectrum antibiotics—combined with antidiarrheal agents—may be prescribed.

Diarrhea patients should generally avoid eating red-bean-paste buns.

Diarrhea is commonly caused by ingestion of contaminated food or concurrent bacterial or viral infections, and is often accompanied by abnormal symptoms such as abdominal pain. Red-bean-paste buns contain legumes (e.g., red beans), which may cause intestinal gas and bloating after consumption; this can exacerbate symptoms including abdominal distension, diarrhea, and even abdominal pain—thus their intake is not recommended. Patients should also avoid other gas-producing foods, such as radishes. Once diarrhea symptoms have significantly improved, these foods may be gradually reintroduced in moderation, typically without adverse effects.

After onset of diarrhea, patients are advised to visit a hospital for diagnostic tests, including stool culture, routine stool examination, complete blood count (CBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum electrolyte assays, to help assess and confirm the underlying cause. If diarrhea results from a viral infection, symptomatic treatment with antidiarrheal agents—such as smectite powder—may be prescribed per physician guidance. If caused by bacterial infection, broad-spectrum antibiotics (e.g., levofloxacin) combined with antidiarrheal therapy may be indicated.
