Additionally, plums are rich in potassium, which may help lower blood pressure. However, they should be eaten in small quantities and preferably between meals. If blood glucose levels are poorly controlled in diabetic patients, plum consumption is generally not recommended, as it may trigger serious complications such as hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS) or diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Whether individuals with diabetes can consume plums depends on their blood glucose control, as plums contain fructose, which may cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
