What are the symptoms of arachnoid cysts?
Arachnoid cysts may cause neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, and may also lead to skeletal manifestations.
1. Neurological symptoms
Patients may experience persistent pain in the upper part of the skull, along with seizures, cognitive impairment, gait abnormalities, mild hemiplegia, and developmental delays. Some patients may also develop decreased vision and difficulty concentrating.
2. Gastrointestinal symptoms
When arachnoid cysts increase intracranial pressure, patients may exhibit nausea and vomiting. They often vomit undigested food remnants, and in some cases, the vomiting may be projectile.
3. Skeletal symptoms
Patients may also develop skeletal abnormalities, noticing a明显 abnormal enlargement of the head, as well as localized skull bulging, typically involving an unusual protrusion on one side or area of the skull.
It is recommended to seek timely medical treatment at a hospital to prevent symptom progression due to disease development, and to avoid potential complications such as hydrocephalus, spontaneous cyst rupture, or subdural effusion.
