Introduction
Avoid alcohol if you have hemorrhoids, as it can cause congestion, dilation, and swelling of the hemorrhoidal veins. Avoid prolonged sitting and excessive physical activity, which may worsen the condition. Hemorrhoid patients should avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers, garlic, and ginger, as these can increase blood flow and exacerbate pain. Do not hold in bowel movements. When stool remains in the intestine for too long, excessive water is absorbed, making it dry and hard, leading to difficult defecation and hemorrhoid bleeding.

Many people suffer from hemorrhoids and often don't know what they should or shouldn't eat during an outbreak, nor are they aware of which foods may harm their health. So, what should you avoid eating if you have hemorrhoids?

What Not to Eat When You Have Hemorrhoids

People with hemorrhoids should avoid overeating, as this can increase the risk of developing or worsening hemorrhoids.

Avoid alcohol consumption, as alcohol can cause congestion, dilation, and swelling of the hemorrhoidal veins. Avoid sitting for long periods or engaging in prolonged physical activity, as these can impair blood circulation in the lower back and buttocks, aggravating hemorrhoid symptoms. Avoid spicy foods—consuming irritating spices such as chili peppers, garlic, and ginger can increase blood flow to the hemorrhoids and worsen pain. Do not delay bowel movements. Prolonged retention of stool in the intestines leads to excessive water absorption, making stools dry and hard. This causes difficulty in defecation, increased abdominal pressure, and may lead to hemorrhoidal bleeding.

Avoid wearing tight waistbands, as these can restrict blood flow in the abdominal cavity and around the anus, interfere with normal intestinal peristalsis, and make bowel movements painful. It's best to wear loose, breathable cotton clothing.

If symptoms are mild, follow your doctor’s guidance for medication, avoid standing or sitting for long periods, frequently change positions, and relax whenever possible. We hope this information helps. Wishing you good health and a happy life.
