How to manage a suppurated scrotal furuncle that has ruptured spontaneously
After a suppurative scrotal boil ruptures spontaneously, iodophor or antibiotic medications can be applied for treatment.
1. Iodophor
Scrotal rupture and pus formation result from breaks in the scrotal skin. Following onset, bacterial proliferation is easily triggered, leading to folliculitis. When folliculitis progresses to a suppurative infection, patients are advised to use topical iodophor for disinfection and maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the affected area. Suppurative scrotal conditions caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection require anti-tuberculosis therapy along with thorough wound debridement. If surgical intervention is determined as the appropriate treatment based on the underlying cause, early physical evaluation is necessary to assess whether the patient's overall health condition is suitable for surgery.
2. Antibiotic Medications
Antibiotics can be used to control scrotal inflammation. During treatment, intake of greasy foods should be restricted, and consumption of raw, cold, and oily foods minimized. This is especially important when scrotal rupture, suppurative inflammation, and infection occur, as these conditions tend to be more severe.
Therefore, it is essential to select anti-infective antibiotics to manage the disease. Currently, this is both the most clinically recommended and the most commonly used treatment approach. Understanding various treatment options enables complete cure of the condition.
