How is zygomatic bone reduction performed?
Zygomatic bone reduction surgery is a type of zygomatic plastic surgery that aims to alter facial shape by modifying the contour of the cheekbones. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. Incision: Make an incision above the gum line inside the mouth, and use specialized instruments to locate the position of the zygomatic bone;
2. Osteotomy: First, cut the prominent part of the front zygomatic bone vertically downward until it is completely separated from the bony prominence below the eye socket. Then, cut the adjacent area from the side;
3. Access incision: Make a 1 cm incision at the hairline just in front of the ear to serve as an entry point for the osteotome;
4. Dissection: Through the preauricular incision, perform osteotomy at the 2/3 portion of the zygomatic arch and completely separate two-thirds of the zygomatic bone from surrounding tissues;
5. Fixation: Rotate the severed zygomatic bone inward, then fix the lateral cut surface with titanium screws. After fixation, push the entire zygomatic bone inward until it fits snugly against the surrounding tissues, followed by external rotation;
6. Bone contouring: Use a bone burr to smooth the protruding areas of the zygomatic bone, push it further inward, and secure it with titanium screws;
7. Suturing: Close both the intraoral and preauricular incisions with sutures.
It is recommended to undergo this procedure at a reputable medical facility under the guidance of a qualified physician.
