How to Use an Abdominal Binder After Open Abdominal Surgery
Abdominal binders generally refer to belt-like cloth bands wrapped around the waist and abdomen. They effectively alleviate postoperative abdominal discomfort, reduce pain, and prevent complications such as suture detachment or tissue tearing, thus protecting the abdominal area. Common methods for using an abdominal binder are as follows:
1. Uterine support: The产妇 lies in a supine position with legs supporting the body, lifting the hips. A family member assists by gently pushing the lower abdomen and deep uterine area upward slowly;
2. Securing the abdominal binder: Use your hands to locate the pubic bone roughly, then place the binder under the产妇's body starting from the pubic symphysis. Adjust the tightness of the binder and secure it firmly from bottom to top;
3. Wearing a pelvic belt: If the产妇 is able to get out of bed and move around, an additional pelvic belt can be worn over the abdominal binder for enhanced support. A family member helps the产妇 put on the pelvic belt over the abdominal binder. The产妇 adjusts the tightness according to personal comfort and secures the pelvic belt.
Note that when using an abdominal binder, it is essential to follow the doctor’s instructions to ensure faster wound recovery.
