What causes diarrhea followed by a sore throat?
Experiencing diarrhea followed by a sore throat may be caused by improper diet, or it could result from conditions such as gastroenteric flu or upper respiratory tract infection.
1. Improper Diet
Diarrhea followed by a sore throat may occur after consuming excessive spicy or irritating foods, which can irritate the gastrointestinal tract and lead to diarrhea. Since these foods are considered "heat-inducing," they may also trigger pharyngeal inflammation and cause throat pain.
2. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
This condition may be triggered by sudden climate changes, bacterial or viral infections, excessive physical fatigue, inadequate abdominal warmth leading to cold exposure, or low immunity. It may also be accompanied by symptoms such as fever, cough, headache, and runny nose.
3. Herpangina
Herpangina can also cause the above-mentioned symptoms, usually due to a viral infection. Patients commonly experience dry throat, difficulty breathing, high fever, and swollen throat. Some patients may develop red rashes on the palms, soles, or buttocks.
