Why do I get diarrhea as soon as it gets hot in summer?
Diarrhea when it gets hot in summer may be caused by indigestion, heatstroke, acute gastroenteritis, or other reasons.
1. Indigestion
Diarrhea triggered by summer heat may result from overeating or unhealthy dietary habits such as drinking chilled beverages. These behaviors cause abrupt temperature changes in the body, irritating the gastrointestinal tract and impairing its digestive and absorptive functions, leading to indigestion. This condition may also be accompanied by symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and bloating.
2. Heatstroke
It could also be due to heatstroke. This typically occurs in summer when high temperatures lead to prolonged exposure to the outdoors, causing excessive sweating and disruption of the body's temperature regulation mechanism, which prevents timely dissipation of internal heat. Symptoms may include heavy sweating, weak limbs, headache, and difficulty concentrating.
3. Acute Gastroenteritis
In hot weather, food spoils easily. Consuming unclean or spoiled food can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa or lead to acute gastroenteritis caused by infections such as Staphylococcus aureus. This condition may also present with symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
