Why does taking blood-activating and stasis-resolving herbs cause diarrhea?
Diarrhea refers to loose or watery stools. Experiencing diarrhea after taking blood-activating medications may be due to factors such as allergic reactions, drug side effects, or drug intolerance.
1. Allergy
If a person has an allergic constitution, taking blood-activating and stasis-resolving medications may trigger allergic reactions, including hives on the skin, as well as adverse effects such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In cases of severe allergic symptoms, antiallergic medications such as loratadine tablets or cetirizine tablets should be taken under a doctor's guidance.
2. Drug Side Effects
If the blood-activating medication contains Cortex Periplocae (Xiang Jiapi), it may cause adverse reactions like diarrhea and vomiting after ingestion—these are considered side effects of the drug. Dosage adjustments should be made promptly under medical supervision to alleviate diarrhea symptoms.
3. Drug Intolerance
In individuals with spleen and stomach deficiency or reduced gastrointestinal function, taking blood-activating medications may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, making diarrhea more likely. It is recommended to discontinue the medication immediately and consult a qualified physician for advice.
