What causes lumps like veins on the legs?
Knobby lumps on the legs may be caused by sebaceous cysts, varicose veins, or phlebitis.
1. Sebaceous Cyst
This typically occurs when sebaceous gland ducts on the leg become blocked. The sebum produced by the glands cannot be discharged in time and accumulates within the gland over time, causing the gland to swell and form a cyst. This results in lumps of varying sizes appearing on the leg.
2. Varicose Veins
If there is an inherent weakness in the venous walls or poor valve function, blood can stagnate in the lower limbs, increasing venous pressure and causing the veins to dilate. Over time, these veins become twisted and enlarged, leading to varicose veins, which may present as knobby lumps on the legs.
3. Phlebitis
Patients who are overweight and lead sedentary lifestyles with prolonged sitting are more prone to developing phlebitis. Symptoms mainly include leg swelling or hard nodules, accompanied by localized pain and the appearance of knobby lumps on the legs.
When patients notice knobby lumps on their legs, especially along with discomfort or other symptoms, they should promptly visit a hospital and, under medical guidance, choose an appropriate treatment plan.
