Introduction
In general, itching and prickling sensations in the upper body may be caused by factors such as urticaria, pruritus, or eczema. Symptoms can be relieved under medical guidance through medications or by improving unhealthy lifestyle habits. Patients should avoid scratching the affected areas when experiencing itching to prevent infection. Additionally, patients should avoid using excessively hot water when bathing, as this may worsen their condition.

Generally, itching in the upper body accompanied by a prickling sensation similar to being pricked by needles may be caused by conditions such as urticaria, pruritus, or eczema. Symptoms can be alleviated under medical guidance through medications or by improving unhealthy lifestyle habits.

1. Urticaria

If a patient is under mental stress or has been exposed to irritants such as dust mites or animal dander, they may develop urticaria. Acute urticaria typically begins with localized itching, followed by the appearance of wheals of varying sizes. The condition usually has a short duration and may also involve swelling or pain. Chronic urticaria lasts longer than six months, with wheals appearing intermittently and symptoms such as itching or pain occurring during flare-ups. Medications such as levocetirizine hydrochloride dispersible tablets or loratadine tablets may be used under a doctor's guidance for symptom relief.

2. Pruritus

Pruritus may occur if the patient uses excessively hot water during bathing or frequently uses strongly alkaline soaps to clean the body. It commonly presents with symptoms including intense itching and a needle-prick-like sensation in the upper body, along with a burning feeling. In severe cases, skin fissures or flaking may occur. Topical treatments such as compound lidocaine cream or tacrolimus ointment may be used under medical supervision to alleviate symptoms.

3. Eczema

Eczema may develop in patients who are exposed to prolonged ultraviolet radiation or suffer from excessive fatigue. Symptoms often include upper-body itching with a needle-pricking sensation, redness, swelling, and papules. In more severe cases, skin flaking or scaling may occur. Relief may be achieved using medications such as prednisone acetate tablets or dexamethasone acetate tablets, as directed by a physician.

Note: Patients should avoid scratching the itchy areas with their hands to prevent infection. Bathing water temperature should not be too high, as this could worsen the condition.
