Introduction
Diarrhea, also known as loose bowels, may occur after eating passion fruit due to factors such as spoiled fruit, excessive consumption, intestinal flora imbalance, food allergy, or gastroenteritis. Patients can follow medical advice to adjust their diet and use medications for treatment. It is recommended to pay attention to food safety in daily life, avoid consuming contaminated food, and maintain a nutritious and healthy diet.

Diarrhea, also known as loose bowels, may occur after consuming passion fruit due to factors such as spoiled passion fruit, excessive consumption, intestinal flora imbalance, food allergy, or gastroenteritis. Patients can follow medical advice to adjust their diet and use medications for treatment. If abnormalities occur, prompt medical attention is recommended. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Spoiled passion fruit: Improper storage can cause passion fruit to spoil and produce harmful substances. Consuming spoiled fruit may lead to food poisoning, resulting in symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting. Consumption of spoiled passion fruit should be stopped immediately. Focus on dietary adjustments by eating light, easily digestible foods such as rice porridge, corn porridge, and millet porridge.

2. Excessive consumption: Although passion fruit is nutritious, overeating may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, leading to indigestion and diarrhea. This occurs because excessive intake increases water and fiber content in the intestines, accelerating intestinal motility. It is recommended to moderate portion sizes and avoid consuming large amounts at once.

3. Intestinal flora imbalance: Long-term consumption of passion fruit may disrupt the balance of gut microbiota, reducing beneficial bacteria while increasing harmful bacteria, thereby causing diarrhea. This imbalance affects normal digestive function in the intestines. It is advised to adjust the diet and increase intake of probiotics. When necessary, patients may take medications under medical guidance—such as Lactasin tablets, Bacillus subtilis bivalent live bacterial granules, or Bifidobacterium live capsules—to help regulate intestinal flora.

4. Food allergy:

Some individuals are allergic to passion fruit, which can trigger gastrointestinal reactions, leading to diarrhea with loose or watery stools. Symptoms often include abdominal pain and bloating. Consumption of passion fruit should be discontinued immediately. Under a doctor’s supervision, medications such as Cetirizine Hydrochloride tablets, Loratadine tablets, or Montmorillonite powder may be used for treatment.

5. Gastroenteritis:

If passion fruit has spoiled or become moldy, ingestion may lead to bacterial infection of the intestines, causing diarrhea accompanied by abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Under medical guidance, patients may take anti-infective medications such as Amoxicillin dispersible tablets, Norfloxacin capsules, or Quadrivalent live-bacteria preparations (e.g., Bifidobacterium tetra-probiotic tablets) to relieve symptoms.

In daily life, it is important to prioritize food safety, avoid consuming contaminated food, and maintain a balanced, healthy diet.
