Introduction
Double vision in one eye upon waking up in the morning may be caused by improper sleeping posture, eye strain, uneven tear secretion, astigmatism, or ophthalmoplegia, and can be improved according to the specific cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention at a hospital and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Adjusting sleeping posture to avoid prolonged pressure on the eyes, along with gently massaging the eyeball and surrounding eye muscles, may help.

Seeing double in one eye upon waking up in the morning may be caused by improper sleeping posture, eye strain, uneven tear secretion, astigmatism, or ocular muscle palsy. Appropriate measures can be taken depending on the specific cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention at a hospital and receive treatment under the guidance of a physician.

1. Improper sleeping posture: Prolonged pressure on one eye during sleep can impair local blood circulation and lead to temporary paralysis of the eye muscles, resulting in double vision. Adjusting sleeping posture to avoid prolonged eye compression, along with gentle massage of the eyeball and surrounding muscles, can help improve blood flow and relieve muscle paralysis.

2. Eye strain: Extended use of electronic devices, staying up late for work or study, etc., may cause eye fatigue and reduced eye muscle regulation, leading to double vision. It is advisable to practice proper eye usage—avoid prolonged continuous use, take a 10–15 minute break every hour by looking into the distance or closing your eyes to rest.

3. Uneven tear secretion: Reduced or uneven tear distribution during sleep may result in an irregular corneal surface, causing abnormal light refraction and double vision. Using artificial tears can help keep the cornea moist and improve tear film uniformity.

4. Astigmatism: The eye has different refractive powers across various meridians, causing parallel light rays to fail forming a single focal point after passing through the eye's optical system, instead forming two focal lines (anterior and posterior), which leads to double vision. Wearing properly prescribed astigmatic glasses is recommended for correction.

5. Ocular muscle palsy: Damage to the nerves controlling eye movement or to the extraocular muscles themselves can cause muscle paralysis, uncoordinated eye movements, and double vision. Under medical supervision, patients may take medications such as mecobalamin tablets, vitamin B1 tablets, or ginkgo leaf extracts to alleviate symptoms.

Maintaining good eye hygiene and avoiding vigorous rubbing or squeezing of the eyes is advised. A light diet is recommended, avoiding spicy and irritating foods such as garlic, hot pot, wasabi, etc. Adequate rest should be ensured, and excessive fatigue should be avoided to maintain overall health.
