Introduction
Under normal circumstances, eating red dates will not cause weight gain. However, it is advisable to avoid consuming large amounts at once, as excessive intake of red dates can irritate the gastrointestinal tract. Overconsumption of red dates may also easily lead to obesity. Red dates have the effect of nourishing blood and calming the mind; however, eating too many red dates may increase sleep and reduce physical activity, which in turn can contribute to weight gain.

Generally speaking, eating red dates does not cause weight gain. However, it's best to avoid consuming large quantities at once. Excessive consumption of red dates can irritate the gastrointestinal tract and easily lead to symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Moreover, overeating red dates may also contribute to obesity for the following reasons:

1. High Sugar Content

Red dates naturally contain abundant carbohydrates, which are essentially sugars. From a nutritional standpoint, each gram of carbohydrate provides 4 kilocalories of energy. Consuming too many red dates may result in excessive caloric intake, leading to weight gain.

2. Spleen-Strengthening and Appetite-Stimulating Effects

Red dates help strengthen the spleen and stimulate appetite. Eating too many red dates may increase hunger, leading to overconsumption of other foods and excess calorie intake, which is another major factor contributing to obesity.

3. Blood-Nourishing and Calming Effects

Red dates have blood-nourishing and calming properties. Overconsumption may increase sleepiness and reduce physical activity, thereby increasing the risk of weight gain.

It's important to avoid consuming high-protein foods when eating red dates. Red dates contain large amounts of vitamin C, which can cause proteins to coagulate into clumps, impairing the body’s digestion and absorption of protein. It's generally recommended to wait one to two hours after eating red dates before consuming high-protein foods. Particularly noteworthy is that red dates should not be eaten together with seafood, as doing so may cause food poisoning if consumed in excess.
