How to reduce swelling from paronychia of the fingernail
Paronychia is a common surgical inflammatory condition, primarily caused by ingrown nails or skin damage and trauma in the nail fold area, leading to bacterial invasion and subsequent infection. The following methods can help reduce swelling associated with paronychia of the fingernail:
1. Keep the affected area around the nail fold clean and hygienic.

2. Soak the affected area alternately with hydrogen peroxide and iodophor for 5–10 minutes each time, 2–3 times daily.
3. After soaking, apply Mupirocin ointment (e.g., Bactroban) or Chlortetracycline eye ointment to the infected site to achieve anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.
4. Take oral antibiotics or receive intravenous antibiotic therapy, such as cephalosporins or penicillins, to kill or inhibit bacteria.
During treatment, patients should increase fluid intake appropriately, consume fruits rich in vitamins and fresh green vegetables, avoid alcoholic beverages, refrain from eating spicy foods, and minimize movement of the affected finger.
