The correct method of moxibustion for cervical spondylosis
For cervical spondylosis, moxibustion mainly targets the Dazhui acupoint and the muscles of the shoulder and neck. Moxibustion helps relieve pain by promoting blood circulation and unblocking meridians, producing warming and cold-dispersing effects. Specific methods are as follows:
1. Moxibustion at the Dazhui Acupoint: The Dazhui acupoint is located in the depression below the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra. When the patient bends their head forward, the highest point at the back of the neck marks the location of the Dazhui acupoint. Hold a burning moxa stick about one inch (cun) away from the skin and apply moxibustion for 5–10 minutes until the skin turns slightly red.

2. Moxibustion on Shoulder and Neck Muscles: Use a burning moxa stick to perform moxibustion along the bilateral neck-shoulder areas and the posterior midline. Keep the moxa stick approximately one inch away from the skin, and continue until the skin becomes mildly reddened.
Precautions
1. Clean the moxa ash promptly during treatment to prevent burns.
2. Avoid exposure to wind and cold after moxibustion; keep warm.
3. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
It is recommended to perform moxibustion under the guidance of a qualified professional.
