There is a white bump behind the back molar.
White bumps appearing behind the molars are often caused by wisdom tooth growth, inflammatory infections, or improper diet. It is important to seek timely evaluation at a hospital's dental department, adjust dietary habits, and receive appropriate treatment such as medication or surgery.
1. Wisdom Tooth Growth
Wisdom teeth typically begin to emerge after the age of 18. During their eruption, they may irritate the molar area, causing local swelling and the formation of white, raised tissue. A prompt visit to the dental clinic for examination and imaging is recommended to assess the position and development of the wisdom teeth. If the teeth are growing in properly, extraction is usually unnecessary—maintaining good oral hygiene is sufficient. However, if the wisdom teeth are growing horizontally or cause significant pain, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications such as metronidazole may be used initially, followed by surgical removal of the affected tooth.
2. Inflammatory Infection
Inadequate oral hygiene can lead to bacterial overgrowth and inflammation, irritating the tissues around the molars and resulting in whitish discoloration or raised lesions. Prompt dental examination is necessary. Under medical guidance, patients may take anti-inflammatory medications such as amoxicillin or metronidazole to treat the infection.
3. Improper Diet
Consuming spicy, strongly flavored, or excessively hard foods—such as chili peppers, onions, or sugarcane—can irritate the soft tissues near the molars. Under a doctor’s supervision, medications like metronidazole or amoxicillin may be prescribed. Additionally, dietary adjustments are recommended, favoring mild, soft, and easily digestible foods such as noodles and rice porridge.
