What does "mucosal congestion and edema of the throat" mean?
Pharyngeal mucosal congestion refers to the phenomenon of hyperemia and edema in the throat's mucous membrane. There are various causes, including diet, colds, and pharyngeal diseases.
1. Dietary factors
Poor daily dietary habits, such as frequently consuming overly spicy foods like chili peppers and garlic, or regularly eating spicy hot pot, barbecued food, excessively hot, or hard foods, can easily irritate the mucous membranes of the throat, leading to symptoms of congestion and swelling.
2. Colds
Colds are mostly caused by infections from pathogens such as bacteria or viruses, resulting in upper respiratory tract symptoms. The throat area is particularly susceptible to such infections, causing the aforementioned symptoms, often accompanied by sneezing, nasal congestion, and sore throat.
3. Pharyngeal diseases
If a patient suffers from chronic pharyngitis or chronic tonsillitis, the mucous membranes in the throat are prone to become congested and swollen. Additional symptoms may include dryness, itching, pricking pain in the throat, coughing, and a sensation of a foreign body in the throat.
In addition, excessive use of the voice, prolonged talking, or speaking loudly can also potentially cause these symptoms.
