Introduction
If a piece of bubble gum is stuck in the throat, and the amount ingested is small with the gum lodged relatively shallowly, it may be expelled by stimulating the back of the tongue with a finger to induce vomiting. Alternatively, increasing abdominal pressure to trigger coughing may help dislodge and expel the gum. However, if the bubble gum is large in size or deeply lodged in the throat, prompt medical attention is required for removal using specialized instruments at a hospital.

Chewing gum stuck in the throat can be relieved through methods such as inducing vomiting, increasing abdominal pressure, or removing it with tools.

1. Inducing vomiting: If only a small amount of chewing gum has been swallowed and it is lodged near the surface, you may induce vomiting by stimulating the back of the tongue with your finger to expel it.

2. Increasing abdominal pressure: If the chewing gum is stuck in the throat but does not cause significant discomfort, increasing abdominal pressure—such as through forceful coughing—may help dislodge and expel it.

3. Tool removal: If the chewing gum is large in size or deeply lodged in the throat, prompt medical attention is required for removal using specialized instruments, such as foreign body forceps under the guidance of an electronic endoscope or fiberoptic laryngoscope.

Due to its sticky nature, chewing gum should be dealt with promptly if accidentally ingested to prevent interference with the normal function of other organs. Avoid talking excessively or engaging in vigorous physical activity while chewing gum.
