How to relieve cough after COVID-19 infection
After recovering from a COVID-19 infection, patients experiencing coughing can generally alleviate discomfort through dietary adjustments, medication, nebulization therapy, and other methods. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.
1. Dietary Adjustments
After being infected with the novel coronavirus, the respiratory tract is often affected and damaged, making symptoms such as coughing and phlegm production common. If the cough is mild and does not interfere with daily activities, it is advisable to drink plenty of water and consume light, easily digestible foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid overly spicy, stimulating, or greasy foods, which may increase irritation in the throat and worsen coughing.
2. Medication
Patients with cough due to novel coronavirus infection should, under a doctor's guidance, use medications such as oral carbocisteine solution or oral ambroxol hydrochloride solution. These drugs help relieve cough and reduce phlegm by thinning mucus and facilitating its expulsion, thereby alleviating discomfort.
3. Nebulization Therapy
For patients with severe coughing who have difficulty expelling phlegm, nebulization therapy using medications such as ipratropium bromide aerosol or terbutaline sulfate aerosol may be recommended under medical supervision. In addition, treatments such as chest physiotherapy (expectoration exercises) or intravenous infusion may also be used. Infected individuals should keep warm, maintain a light diet, and avoid irritant foods during recovery to prevent interference with healing.
