Can a 9-and-a-half-year-old girl still grow taller after starting her period?
A 9-and-a-half-year-old girl can still grow taller after her first menstrual period, but height growth is related to the girl's bone age, not to menstruation.
Menstruation is an important sign of reproductive maturity. Typically, girls begin menstruating around ages 12 to 13. A 9-and-a-half-year-old girl may have already entered puberty, as puberty tends to start earlier due to improved living standards. Generally, girls experience a rapid growth spurt around this age, so they will continue to grow taller during this period. However, there is no direct relationship between the onset of menstruation and height increase. To determine whether further growth is possible, the girl should visit a hospital for a bone age assessment. If the growth plates (epiphyseal lines) have not yet closed, she can still grow taller.
To promote height growth, girls should maintain a balanced diet with adequate nutrition, consume more high-protein foods such as fish, shrimp, meat, eggs, and dairy products; engage in appropriate outdoor physical activities like running, jumping rope, and hiking; and maintain a regular sleep schedule with early bedtime and sufficient sleep.
