Can I eat bird's nest if I have a cough?
Coughing patients can usually consume bird's nest, but they should avoid eating too much at one time to prevent discomfort.
Bird's nest contains abundant nutrients such as carbohydrates, vitamins, and trace elements including calcium, iron, and phosphorus, which help supply various nutrients to the body and enhance immunity. It also contains epidermal growth factors that promote cell division and regeneration. During coughing, the mucous membranes in the throat may become damaged; consuming an appropriate amount of bird's nest can aid in healing these injured areas and support recovery. However, excessive consumption should be avoided because bird's nest is primarily composed of protein. Overconsumption may burden the gastrointestinal system, leading to indigestion and symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
During a cough, patients are advised to eat moderate amounts of fresh vegetables and fruits, such as spinach, cucumber, pears, and apples, to ensure balanced nutrition.
