Introduction
A normal armpit is not swollen. If the armpit appears bulging, it may be due to obesity, accessory breast tissue in women, or enlarged lymph nodes under the arm. In obese individuals, excess fat tissue can accumulate in the armpit area, causing a noticeable protrusion. Accessory breast tissue in women refers to residual mammary gland tissue that did not fully regress during development. This tissue may become swollen and painful.

Normally, a person's armpit should not be bulging. If swelling occurs in the armpit area, it may be due to obesity, accessory breast tissue under the arm in women, or enlarged lymph nodes.

1. Obesity

Obese individuals may have significant fat accumulation in the armpit area, resulting in noticeable protrusion. It is recommended that patients reduce intake of greasy foods and increase physical activity to promote fat metabolism, thereby reducing fat buildup and alleviating the bulge under the arm.

2. Accessory Breast Tissue in Women

Accessory breast tissue refers to residual mammary gland tissue that did not fully regress during development. This condition often causes swelling, pain, hyperplasia, and in some cases, even malignant transformation. Clinically, surgical removal of accessory breast tissue is commonly advised to prevent potential cancerous changes and serious complications.

3. Swollen Axillary Lymph Nodes

Armpit lumps are often caused by superficial lymph node enlargement, which can result from local soft tissue infections, breast hyperplasia, or in early postpartum women with milk stasis or even mastitis. The treatment approach depends on the underlying cause. For example, acute lymphadenitis can be treated with medication under a doctor’s guidance, using drugs such as ribavirin granules or acyclovir tablets. If cancer has metastasized to the axillary lymph nodes, surgery should be performed at a正规 hospital under medical supervision.

In addition, lymphoma can also cause armpit swelling. Patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation to avoid delays in diagnosis and treatment.
