Can tracheal spasms heal on their own?

Introduction
If the condition is caused by an allergic reaction leading to the release of inflammatory mediators, resulting in mucosal edema and smooth muscle spasm—which causes continuous contraction of smooth muscles and tracheal spasm—avoiding further exposure to the allergen may allow spontaneous recovery. However, if the condition is due to bronchial asthma, acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cardiac asthma, it will not resolve spontaneously and requires medical treatment such as medications or surgery to prevent worsening of the condition.

Whether bronchospasm can resolve on its own depends on individual circumstances.

1. Can resolve spontaneously

If bronchospasm is caused by allergies—such as exposure to animal dander, pollen, etc.—leading to the release of inflammatory mediators, mucosal edema, and smooth muscle spasm, resulting in continuous contraction of smooth muscles, it usually can resolve spontaneously once further exposure to the allergen is avoided.

2. Cannot resolve spontaneously

If bronchospasm is due to conditions such as bronchial asthma, acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cardiac asthma, it typically does not resolve on its own. Medical treatment with prescribed medications is required, and in some cases, surgery may be necessary to prevent worsening of the condition.
