Dizzy, spinning sensation as soon as closing eyes
Dizziness and vertigo upon closing the eyes may be caused by conditions such as heatstroke, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), or Ménière's syndrome. It is recommended to seek timely medical attention and receive treatment targeting the underlying cause.
1. Heatstroke
In hot summer weather, prolonged exposure to high temperatures or intense physical activity can easily lead to heatstroke, which may manifest clinically as dizziness and a sensation of spinning upon closing the eyes. After heatstroke occurs, the individual should be quickly moved to a cool, low-temperature environment and promptly rehydrated.
2. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
The cause of BPPV is relatively complex and may be related to changes in head position, head trauma, or viral neuritis. The typical symptom is vertigo, sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Treatment may include manual repositioning maneuvers performed with the help of a physician, along with medications such as betahistine tablets or promethazine tablets as prescribed, to help alleviate vertigo symptoms.
3. Ménière's Syndrome
This is a type of otogenic vertigo. Contributing factors include sleep disturbances, adverse life events, and viral infections. It is characterized by recurrent episodes of rotational vertigo. Treatment may involve medications such as betahistine tablets or triamterene tablets as directed by a physician. For patients unresponsive to conservative treatment, surgical options such as vestibular nerve section or endolymphatic sac surgery may be considered.
Besides the above causes, conditions such as cerebral infarction could also be responsible. Proper differential diagnosis is recommended to avoid misdiagnosis.
