Introduction
There are various reasons for hard nodules on the thigh muscles that are painful upon palpation. It could be clinical symptoms caused by trauma, or possibly due to factors such as femoral hernia or infected sebaceous cysts. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include conservative management, medication, or surgical intervention. Additionally, soft tissue tumors can also lead to the development of hard nodules and tenderness in the thigh muscles.

Hard nodules on the thigh muscles that are painful upon pressure may be clinical symptoms caused by trauma. Other possible causes include femoral hernia or infected sebaceous cysts. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may involve conservative management, medications, or surgery. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Trauma

When the thigh suffers traumatic injury, muscle bruising and hematoma formation may occur, resulting in a hard lump. In the early stage of injury, appropriate cold compresses can help reduce hematoma formation. After 48 hours, warm compresses may be applied to promote absorption of blood and resolution of the hematoma. If the hematoma persists for a prolonged period, prompt intervention such as needle aspiration and compression dressing may be required.

2. Femoral Hernia

This is a type of abdominal wall hernia in which abdominal organs protrude through the femoral canal into the oval fossa of the thigh. It typically presents as a bulge at the upper thigh near the groin. When the herniated contents become strangulated or undergo ischemic necrosis, local pain or tenderness upon pressure may develop. For patients with severe pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as celecoxib capsules, meloxicam tablets, or etoricoxib capsules may be used under medical guidance. Additionally, surgical treatments such as high ligation of the hernial sac or femoral hernia repair may be necessary.

3. Sebaceous Cyst

Also known as epidermoid cyst, this condition results from blockage of the sebaceous gland duct, leading to accumulation of glandular contents. It appears as a round skin mass, either skin-colored or slightly blue. When secondary infection occurs, tenderness upon pressure develops. Under medical advice, antibiotics such as amoxicillin capsules, cefdinir dispersible tablets, or cefuroxime axetil tablets may be prescribed. Alternatively, the cyst may be surgically removed via conventional excision or a minimally invasive small-incision technique.

In addition, soft tissue tumors may also cause hard nodules and tenderness in the thigh muscles. It is important to seek timely medical evaluation and receive appropriate treatment under a physician’s guidance.
